Wanda Klimke Memorial Award for Distinguished Long-term Service

This award is named in memory of Wanda Klimke, a founding member of the Alberta Farmers’ Market Association (AFMA). From the very beginning, Wanda poured her heart into helping build and strengthen AFMA, serving tirelessly on the board during its formative years and later returning to the board to again contribute her experience and guidance.

Wanda was more than just a dedicated board member — she was a long-time vendor, a passionate advocate for Alberta approved farmers’ markets, and a dear friend to so many in our market community. Her kindness, energy, and unwavering belief in the value of farmers’ markets left a lasting mark on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

The Wanda Klimke Memorial Award celebrates the same spirit of commitment and generosity that Wanda embodied. It honours the staff, volunteers and supporters — whether board members, market managers, vendors, or community champions — who give their time, energy, and talents to ensure farmers’ markets thrive. This award is a tribute to those who make a lasting difference — not for recognition, but out of their belief in the power of farmers’ markets to bring people together.
